HQ Symphony 3.3m
The HQ Symphony 3.3m was my first real power kite and is still going strong
after all these years. The one in the picture was actually the second one I
owned, the first coming to an untimely end in the
top of a very large tree. It is a great kite and the most popular kite in the
kite club. It is mainly flow on a bar on two lines but as the wind picks up is
moved onto quad lines on handles due to the significant pull it can generate.
The Symphony has no upward lift but loads of sideways pull and for this reason
tends to be the first kite may of the new kite flyers go for when they move to
four lines. It is very forgiving and hardly ever luff’s or collapses. It is
very, very crash resistant, a real testament to its outstanding build quality.
It is a fast kite having a fairly high aspect ratio but does need a good strong wind to generate pull, which it then does in a very polite and controllable way. In terns of power it sits in between the 2 and 3m Firebee which is just right considering it has a 2.5 projected area. It is very difficult to right a review on this kite because it just does everything it says on the tin. It is of the highest build quality, very stable, easy to handle, generates good power when the wind picks up, a great first time 4 line kite. Prices on these kites have come down over the years but are still relatively high. The range of kites are easily overlooked by buyers looking for a cheaper alternative like the Firebee or Buster. The Firebee and Buster are good kite but are built to a cheep price. The Symphony 3.3 is a much higher quality kite and this is reflected in the price. The kite also looks much better in the sky than any of our Firebees that all seem to look under inflated and very DIY. The symphony forms a lovely ARC shape and retains it in the turns.
This kite is a great buggy kite in stronger winds and is a good buggy trainer kite.
